Battle of the Atlantic 2022
After a long period of isolation and adaptation to online circumstances, RCSCC Ajax was finally able to have in person ceremonies again. Through the rain, and threat of rain, the Cadets stood proudly. Many were excited to have the opportunity for in person ceremonies and many Cadets participated in their first joint ceremony with NLCC Achilles.
On Sunday May 1st 2022 RCSCC Ajax and NLCC Achilles commemorated the Battle of the Atlantic. The Battle of the Atlantic is a service to remember the lost ships during the Battle of the Atlantic from September 3 1939 - May 8 1945. In reminiscence of the lives sacrificed to the allied cause Sea Cadets memorialize the event yearly on the first Sunday in May.
For our small service the two corps had a full Flag Party, and a bugler to mark colours, and later sunset. Afterwards the two Ship’s Companies fell in side by side, adjusting previous drill to accommodate COVID regulations. Afterwards Padre Dell gave a small commemorative service, including the Naval Hymn and Prayer. Cadets from both RCSCC Aja and NLCC Achilles participated in the service by giving a brief reading on the significance of the Battle of the Atlantic and then in the reading of the ships. The corps observed the Last Post and the Rouse and the service ended with a brief message from the CO’s of both RCSCC Ajax and NLCC Achilles.
Thanks to brave members of the Canadian Armed Forces we are able to stay safe and free in this country. As Cadets we recognize the sacrifices made by our military members though different ceremonies and commemorations.
